INSIGHTS for School Personnel
Classroom management is challenging for most teachers. A one-size-fits-all approach to classroom management does not work. Instead understanding children’s temperament (personalities) and using strategies that match is more effective.
Children come with a variety of unique temperaments that influence their behavior, attention, and their academic skills. This professional development program will introduce you to four typical school-age temperament profiles. For example -- Coretta the Cautious is shy, Gregory the Grumpy is high maintenance, Freddy the Friendly is very social, and Hilary the Hard Worker is industrious. The temperaments are featured in INSIGHTS into Children’s Temperament, a social emotional learning intervention. Participants in this workshop will learn a variety of practical, evidence-based strategies that are tailored to children's different personalities. Brief professionally produced videos are used to relay the content. Small group activities facilitate the implementation of the presented strategies. Handouts are provided.
The presenter is Sandee McClowry, PhD, RN, FAAN. She is the developer of INSIGHTS and was the principal investigator of three federally funded randomized clinical trials that tested its efficacy. INSIGHTS Works! The program has demonstrated that it reduces children’s behavior problems and improves their reading and math skills. Other outcomes are listed on our website https://insightsintervention.com
