Morris H Ervin, Jr. offers a contemplative approach that nurtures the social and emotional competences of the youth, families, communities, and corporations to reconnect to the peace within themselves, repair relationships and restore harmony in society.  Morris is an educator, motivational speaker, and wellness coach committed to helping youth, families, schools, communities, and institutions “turn fear into strength, and pain into passion.” He was a public school teacher for ten years in Los Angeles, CA, and Cleveland, OH, schools specializing in social-emotional learning and non-violent communication curriculum development. Morris is a mindfulness instructor at University Hospital in Cleveland, OH, and actively teaches mindfulness, nonviolent communication, and restorative justice in schools and after-school programs to disenfranchised youth.


Workshops

  • The Power of Empathy; Utilizing Mindfulness, Non-Violent Communication and Restorative Practices

    In this workshop we will unify the powers of inner and outer transformation. With a contemplative approach we will nurture our social and emotional competencies to reconnect to the peace within ourselves. From this inner transformation we will learn to repair relationships and restore harmony in our communities.
    Participants will be supported and challenged to explore potent conversations around current issues such as; police brutality, racial profiling, and immigration. We will face these concerns utilizing mindfulness, non-violent communication, and restorative practices. We will learn to communicate clearly and listen empathically for the needs of diverse populations, creating the quality of connection that will lead to greater understanding, peace, respect, and social harmony. We will spend the days deepening into our practice of mindfulness and self-compassion with a goal of bringing these skills into the world for healing and action.

    Cost: $2,500

    Duration: This workshop can be four hours, a full day, or a three day.

  • Title: A Night at the Rec (Relationships, Engagement, Connection)

    This workshop is ideal for anyone interested in the intersection of contemplative practice, mindfulness, and interpersonal communication. It is perfect for parents, teachers, administrators, or anyone else wishing to be able to bring greater balance to their lives while aiming to heal the inequities of our world. This unique course utilizes movement, music, games, role-playing, journaling, and many other creative and enjoyable ways to provoke inner and outer transformation. Through a supportive community we will gain the inner-skills we need to be the best agents of conscious change we can be in the world.

  • Performance Based, Character Education Assembly JAJA’s Epic Journey:

    We are inviting students, faculty, administration and parents to fully participate in the story of JAJA and his arduous journey to find out where home truly is while having to persevere through extreme amounts of loss, pain, and personal tragedy. Come along for the journey of a lifetime that’s filled with music, history, culture and possibility.

    Students, faculty, parents and administration will have an opportunity to share thoughts, reactions, and reflections after the performance is over. Breakout sessions will be provided for individual classrooms if necessary. The entire assembly will be 45 minutes to 1.5 hours depending on the needs of the school.

    Impact: Through character development, students will be able to cope with difficult situations, learn accountability, take responsibility for their actions, and learn from their mistakes.

    Duration: One hour and 30 minutes
