Description

What: Professional Opportunity Visits (POVs)
When3 half-day school visits throughout the school year (November 2023, February 2024, April 2024)
Where: 3 schools across the state (including a boarding school; a school with a lower school; and a school with a unique mission, philosophy, or demographic (single gender; religious, Waldorf, learning support program, etc.)
Who: This program is open to any CAIS educator but is limited to 3 participants per school

The POV program seeks to imitate medical rounds in an educational setting and recognizes that often some of the most important PD work happens when educators are able to visit and observe schools different than their own. As we launch the 2023-2024 school year, we know that schedules fill up quickly and that it is often hard to find the time to veer away from day-to-day reactive work and to prioritize generative work or professional growth – including classroom observations. Let CAIS help you do just that: POV participants will join a cohort of fellow CAIS educators to visit three CAIS schools during the school year – coordinated by CAIS and built into your calendar!

What can you expect from the POV?
As a member of a POV cohort, you will:
  • Join a group of 8-10 educators interested in learning more about different schools.
  • Visit 3 schools during the school year with distinctly different missions and profiles
    • Each cohort will visit: a boarding school; a school with a lower school; and a school with a unique mission or profile (single gender, religious, Montessori or Waldorf, students with different learning needs, etc.)
  • Spend a half-day at each school (approximately 8:30 AM – 1:00 PM), starting with a welcome coffee and ending with lunch provided by the host school.
  • Participate in conversation with educators at the host school.
  • Observe a combination of classes, assemblies and special programs.
  • Build a cross-school community of peers and resources.
Participation would entail:
  • A recognition that the schools will be spread out across the state and may involve an atypical commute
  • Attendance at a virtual preliminary cohort meeting and a concluding virtual cohort meeting
  • A commitment to your cohort and to the schools to attend all three school visits
Before you register using the link below, please remember:
  • Given what we expect to be high interest in the program, schools are initially asked to limit participation to 3 educators to ensure a range of CAIS schools have access to the opportunity.
  • Registrants will commit to a trio of school visits spread out over the school year. You must be able to commit to all three dates for the cohort you select.
  • Participants will not learn which three schools their cohort will visit until October 7.
  • Please confirm with your immediate supervisor that you are able to be absent from school on any of the dates you select.
  • Cohort dates / Trio of visits. *Please note that while there are overlapping dates, each cohort below has a distinct trio of dates.
