First Steps in Music is a researched-based, early-childhood music curriculum created by Dr. John Feierabend, a leader in the field of music education. The curriculum uses traditional folk songs, rhymes and classical masterworks to help guide children to becoming tuneful, “beat-ful” and artful. Through active participation in music and movement activities, workshop participants will learn how to further their young students’ musical growth with joy, imagination and wonder while preparing them for a lifetime of appreciating and participating in music. Workshop leader Chris Powers is one of the founding members of the Feierabend Association for Music Education (FAME) and currently serves as vice president of the board of directors. She is an endorsed teacher trainer for the First Steps in Music curriculum and received her degree in music from the Hartt School.
