CAIS Annual Conference on Governance – 2024

Who: This annual conference is for new trustees and experienced ones, heads of school, and senior administrators.

What: The Annual Conference on Governance features opportunities to learn about good governance practice; possible legal dilemmas on school campuses during the election season; the board/chair relationship, fundraising, the fiduciary responsibilities of the board; strategic thinking, managing conflict, and much more.

When: Thursday, September 19, 12:45 – 4:00 PM and Friday, September 20, 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM

Where: online

The event will feature a Thursday keynote: Governing in Dynamic Times, by Debra Wilson, President of NAIS (National Association of Independent Schools), which will highlight trends and opportunities facing independent school boards.

And a Friday general session, Courageous Collaboration: The Head-Board Chair Partnership, specifically for Board Chairs and Heads of Schools led by Brooke Carroll, Principal Consultant & Coach for Acies Strategies.

Participants will also choose from 12 concurrent sessions on topics ranging from sessions for different demographics, including Board Members as Fiduciaries, and An Orientation to School Governance (both aimed at newer trustees), to general topics appropriate for all independent school trustees, such as Navigating Identity and Communications – What Boards Should Know Now, Managing Conflict in the Boardroom, and Prioritizing Sustainability for 21st Century Education : Why and How.
